16:15-17:30Session 7 Low-carbon Economy & Green Competitiveness

(1F, Shizimen Hall A, Zhuhai International Convention Center)

- Climate change is an existential crisis for our planet. Green and low-carbon transition is our last, best chance to save our     common homeland. The time to act is now before it’s too late.

- In 2010-2019, average annual global GHG emissions were at their highest levels in human history, but the rate of growth has slowed. Since 2010, there have been sustained decreases of up to 85% in the costs of solar and wind energy, and batteries. An increasing range of policies and laws have enhanced energy efficiency, reduced rates of deforestation and accelerated the deployment of renewable energy. We have the tools and know how required to limit warming. We have options in all sectors to at least halve emissions by 2030. What we need is greater ambition, resolve and bolder action.

- In the decades ahead, green competitiveness will stand out as the core competitiveness of a country or company. Eventually, one might have to face the tough choice of “going green” or “going broke”. Renewables and EV have emerged as key growth engines of the green economy, and pose substantial challenges to traditional energies and auto-makers. What other technologies and industries may pop up along the way as green competitiveness of an economy?
